IT Desk: Internet speed has been slow across the country since 12:00 pm on Friday. As a result, customers are in trouble. Internet speed has further slowed down since Saturday morning. Internet service is disrupted due to submarine cable disconnection.
Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) announced in a circular on Saturday afternoon, that the country's second submarine cable (SMW-5) under the control of Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (SMW-5) suddenly broke off at the western end of 440 km from Singapore on Friday, April 19. All Kuakata-Singapore-bound traffic through this cable is currently closed.
The government agency assured that the cable will be repaired and re-connected quickly through the SMW-5 consortium.
It is to be noted that internet services are currently being provided in the country through SMW-4 submarine and ITC companies located in Cox's Bazar and significant amount of bandwidth isolated from SMW-5 is being shifted to SMW-4 cable. However, internet speed may remain slow until the SMW-5 submarine cable is repaired and restored.
BSCPLC authorities sincerely regret the temporary inconvenience caused to customers due to disruption of internet services across the country.
