Many are even failing to submit their applications due to the huge crowds.
Sohan, who came to BRTA for his licence renewal, said, “My motorbike registration certificate expired last month. But, due to the BRTA office closure, I failed to renew it.”
“To avoid harassment of law enforcers I came to BRTA for renew the registration certificate in this critical situation of coronavirus,” he added.
According to the BRTA, people can renewed their expired registration certificates, fitness certificates and license without penalty till June 30.
The BRTA has stopped the issuance of new driving license and examination of driving license.Besides, the BRTA introduce online Vehicle registration application from June 7 to avoid congestion. Direct application was not taken now. People have to apply at www.bsp.brta.gov.bd.
All the district and metropolitan circle offices of BRTA were reopened on May 31 after being closed for more than two months to curb the spread of coronavirus.
However, the activities are going on to a limited scale. Only vehicle registration, fitness, route permit and driving license renewal application are being taken. Applications for new registrations and licenses are not being accepted.
BRTA Chairman Yusuf Ali Molla said, “No one has to come to get the registration. The application for vehicle registration is now taken online to avoid gatherings.”
He said, “Trainee driver applications, issuance of new licences, examination of driving licence has been stopped for the time being, which will be introduced in phases.”
