CNI Desk: “No, no, no! I’m sure you’re mistaken,” Noor said in a breaking voice.

“Shut up! I’m not. I’m pretty sure you were the one who did that disgusting thing 10 years back.” Arin’s angry voice replied.

“No, please Arin, listen to me. It was Apu who…”

“How dare you say her name? Just because I was jealous of you my whole life doesn’t mean you could ruin the rest of my life by doing this. And now you’re blaming others?” he demanded.

“No, I’m not. I’m just trying to tell you the truth.”

“No, I don’t want to hear any of your fake explanations and if you utter one more word, you’ll be lying dead on the floor.” He burst out angrily.

The night sky was covered with heavy clouds and the moon playing hide and seek with them. It was cold and the air smelt of overdue rain. A vast blanket of white hung heavy over the grass, swallowing every distant object, with the wind swirling like a Lamborghini. The tall trees stood silently surrounding them in the middle of the forest. The only way they could see each other was the moonlight shining down, lighting the forest from pitch black to charcoal grey. There stood Arin with a loaded gun in his hand and Noor tied fierce-fully to a tree.

She sat there silently with tears streaming down her face as she wanted to burst out and say, “It was not me! It was Apu who did that to you! I was only trying to protect you.” But she feared uttering another word as this might cause her death too soon. She was not afraid of dying from the person who has accompanied her since the age of four, has ben her guardian, her overprotecting loving brother. Rather she feared that Arin would kill her with the misconception he has been carrying around for 10 long years thinking she was the one who made the rest of his life a hell.

She wasn’t ready to accept that at all so she wanted to clear out the misconception and afterwards if Arin wanted to kill her, she would willingly give her life for the person she loved most in her life.

She knew that Arin wouldn’t listen to her by any means because when he had called her this morning after 10 long years, he was very desperate and had asked her to meet him. So she took the paper holding all the truth, she had written years ago, with her. She met Arin where he asked to because she wanted to give him the paper.  But the last thing she remembered was Arin holding something in her nose and her world went black after that. When she woke, she was tied with a tree in the dark forest.

She knew that she was going to die soon after Arin’s warning. She took one last look at her paper rolled pendent which held all the truth.

O My Dear Arin,

I wanted to tell you all that day. But after that morning, I never saw you again. So I had written it all down on this paper. You’ve been the most wonderful person in my life. I don’t want to make you feel guilty or anything, I just want to tell you the truth.

I was the first person who came to know about your drug business. I knew that Dad won’t spare you if he knew that you left college midway and started business, so you kept it hidden. But you had promised me to complete your studies.

One day, your girlfriend, Apu asked me about you. I didn’t know that you didn’t tell her anything. So, trusting her, I told her everything. Immediately after a day or two, she started disclosing it to everyone and eventually when Dad came to know about this, he had thrown you out of your house. Afterwards, your friends informed me that you broke up with Apu as her father won’t accept you. I tried to find you everywhere but your friends never told your location.

It has been 10 years since then. Now, that you have known the truth, I am relieved as now you think that your beloved sister could never do such a disgraceful thing. My blessings will always be with you.

                                                                                                                                                                                 Love  Noor

Slowly he lifted the gun to her head with all the anger as if they would only be released with the bullet. Suddenly, silence fell over the whole forest and the only sound heard was the gunshot cracking into the air as loud as thunder. She lay there with a bullet in her head. After a moment of silence, when he was leaving, he noticed the paper rolled pendent. With enough curiosity, he took it from her neck and read the whole truth.

He was baffled with astonishment and stood there silently thinking what he had done to the person who cared most for him. He was so shocked that he forgot to show any emotion and before he could understand anything, he lifted the gun to his head and pulled the trigger – “Boom!”
